Taking the confusion and risk out of buying Private Medical Insurance.

New to Private Medical Insurance?

The easiest thing as always is to start at the beginning – there are generally two areas of cover available – In-patient treatment which will cover you should the need arise for you to go into hospital for an operation and either stay overnight or just as a day patient. This is normally known as Core cover as is provided by all insurers – this would cover your surgeons and anaestetists bills any hospital charges for your stay, theatre costs, operating costs  any cancer treatment, drugs, dressings and medications, food and drink, MRI, CT and PET scans all covered in full. This is the most expensive side of Private Healthcare.

In addition you can add out-patient treatment this would normally include visits to see a consultant for diagnosis of a problem – X rays – blood tests – MRI, CT and PET scans – visits to a Therapist eg a physiotherapist – follow up consultations etc and also complimentary medicine - chiropractor osteopath etc

All companies will offer this on a Comprehensive basis – in other words no limit to the amount you can claim – however you can also get cover with limits of say  a thousand pounds or six hundred pounds – this has the effect of reducing your premium – this is where we can guide you to the correct options for you  to ensure the right options and at a premium to suit your budget.

Some insurers will also offer other benefits like Psychiatric cover – Dental and Optical, Travel Cover for Overseas – however the option will always be with you.
